When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:33–34, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Now, the rejection of Christ is a completely different matter. We cannot claim that we “do not know what [we] are doing” when we do so. “For this reason, [He] was born, and for this [He] came into the world, to testify to the truth.” (John 18:37, NIV 1984). We now have knowledge of that truth. When we reject the “Gospel truth,” which is the ultimate and unforgiveable sin, it is deliberate. We know exactly what we are doing. We may seek other avenues of forgiveness, but there are none. For, there is no other sacrifice left that can atone.
“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.” (Hebrews 10:26–27, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “[We] crucified Him.” “Hung [Him] on a tree…under God’s curse.” (Deuteronomy 21:23, NIV 1984). He submitted to it in order to break the curse that we deserved. If we only accept the truth. Otherwise, “only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire.” This need not be our expectation.
