What Is Written

“This is what I [Jesus] told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:44–48, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “Everything must be fulfilled.” Not almost or nearly. All that was written about Him. If He lacked just one thing, He would not be the Messiah. Nearly 2000 years and no credible claim has been made that He did not.

You are witnesses of these things. Those with a personal knowledge. So convinced, that they “[could not] help speaking about what [they had] seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20, NIV 1984). So convinced that all but one died a martyr’s death without recanting. The one that did not, John, was imprisoned on an island penal colony.

My Advice “A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.” (Deuteronomy 19:15, NIV). Matthew and John’s Gospels. Peter’s and James’ Epistles. First-hand accounts. Mark and Luke’ Gospels. Accounts handed down by eyewitnesses. We must “[open our] minds” to “what is written” the Scriptures. All was fulfilled and was established by multiple witness accounts.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
