The Mouth of the Lord

Now this was John’s testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Christ.” (John 1:19–20, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Who was he then? Jesus said, “among those born of women there is no one greater than John.” (Luke 7:28, NIV 1984). Quite an endorsement, coming from the Son of God. John was “a voice of one calling: ‘In the desert prepare the way for the Lord.'” (Isaiah 40:3, NIV 1984).

My Advice – And what was it this voice had to say about Jesus? “I have seen, and I testify that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:33–34, NIV 1984). And we best pay attention to what John says, because when He spoke, “the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:5, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
