No Power Over Me

“Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?” Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.” (John 19:10–11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Whatever “the Lord Almighty has purposed…who can thwart him? [once] His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?” (Isaiah 14:27, NIV 1984). While the context is completely different, I believe this is always the case. The situation of Jesus’ arrest and impending crucifixion was not event spiraling out of control. It was God’s plan of redemption unfolding as it was planned from the beginning of man’s first sinful act of disobedience.

My Advice – The same holds true for those who belong to Christ. Nothing in all creation has power over us unless it is given from above. And if it is given, then we can rest assured that the purpose is for the ultimate good. To conform us to His Son’s likeness. For, “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son.” (Romans 8:28–29, NIV 1984). Let’s be thankful for that.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
