He said to them: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – If you knew that the words you were about to speak to the people you cared for the most, what would they be? For certain, they would not be idle chatter. They would be words of great importance. Words that you would want to have impact. Words of encouragement and inspiration. That would be remembered long after you were gone. Words that maybe made a difference.
“Be strong in the Lord. And never give up hope. You’re gonna do great things; I already know. God’s got His hand on you. So don’t live life in fear. Forgive and forget. But don’t forget why you’re here. Take your time and pray. These are the words I would say.” (Lyrics from the Words I Would Say, by Sidewalk Prophets). These might even be the words I would say.
My Musings – As Christians, we must never “forget why [we’re still] here.” To be a faithful and “truthful witness [who] saves lives.” (Proverbs 14:25, NIV 1984). We have a lot of work to do before the Master returns or call us home, whatever “the ends of the earth” may be that he calls us to be witnesses. In person or on the worldwide web.
And if we never get to say those last words, may people know what we would have said by the way we lived our life and what we said (or wrote) before.
