Yet he [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:20–25, NIV 1984).
My Musings – There is a lot of “wavering” going on among the multitudes, not being “fully persuaded” that Jesus said what He said or did what He did. Sadly, anything less that “fully persuaded” will not be “credited to [us] as righteousness.” The saddest refrain that will ever echo from the pits of hell might very well be, “I was almost persuaded.”
My Advice – “The word of the Lord came to [Abram]…’Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.’ Then He said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:4–6, NIV 1984).
Abram had as good a reason as anybody to be less than “fully persuaded.” Every reason to “waver.” But He didn’t. We must be like Abram. We must be fully into our faith in Christ, or not at all. We must decide for ourselves that He was either “delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification,” or He was not. He was, whether we believe it or not. But it will only be “credited to [us] as righteousness” if we believe.
