The Many, The One

For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. (Romans 5:19, NIV 1984).

My Musings – We think we can, and we try our best to balance the scales through our acts of righteousness. Not comprehending on the one side of the scale that “whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (Jamess 2:10, NIV 1984). Being also unaware that on the other side of the scales that “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” (Isaiah 64:6, NIV 1984). There is just no way that our acts of unrighteousness, no matter how meager they may seem, can ever be outweighed by our futile attempts at righteousness.

My Advice – We cannot remove our sins from the one side of the scale, but we can substitute our acts of righteousness on the other with His. At the end of the “day,” merely balancing the scales would never be enough, even if we could. We need His “thumb” on the other side of the scale to more than outweigh the burden of our sin on side with our sins. All we need to do is believe and receive.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
