For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Wages are something that are generally regarded as something that we earn and deserve. Whereas as a gift is generally the opposite, at least when it comes to being earned, and often not what we deserve.
There are also things that no matter how hard or long one works, it will never be enough to earn or deserve it. Salvation is one. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23, NIV 1984). There is nothing one can do to pay for it, for It is too costly.
“If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God’s rod from [us],” (Job 9:33–34, NIV 1984). But who could ever conceive of one being able to pay the price it for and then just give it away? There is someone who could conceive of it (God the Father) and someone who did pay the price (God the Son) for it. And because of that, we can be “justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:24, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set [us] free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.” (Romans 8:1–3, NIV 1984).
