Guaranteeing What Is To Come

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 1:21–22, NIV 1984).

My Musings – This passage stands as a testament against those who would add anything to the sufficiency of Christ’s atoning death on the cross to either obtain or maintain their salvation. From the initial anointing, when we accept Christ, to the final guarantee (think eternal security) of what is to come for us, “it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.”

My Advice – “For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever.” (Psalm 37:28, NIV 1984). Who are the “just?” Who are the “faithful ones?” Only those who have trusted Christ. Accept the only offer that has the guarantee of God Almighty! There is no firmer assurance.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
