Live By the Spirit

Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other. (Galatians 5:16–17, NIV 1984).

My Musings – One cannot “live by the Spirit” unless they are in Christ. Sadly, those in Christ can still “gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” But as they mature in Christ, it should be less and less.

Living by the Spirit – “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–23, NIV 1984).

Gratifying the Sinful Nature“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.” (Galatians 5:19–21, NIV 1984).

My Advice – The one that we feed, is the one that will thrive. “Like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” (Ps 1:3, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
