Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29, NIV 1984).
My Musings – I have never understood the need for profanity, but it has become so commonplace. Even when it is not the overflow of “bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” (Ephesians 4:31, NIV 1984). I certainly do not see how it is ever “helpful” in any situation, and to me denotes a lack of control and a lack of eloquence. It provides no “benefit to those who [you want to] listen” to what you have to say
My Advice – This is just one more way that we Christians can distinguish ourselves from the culture around us. Especially if we are “kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave [us].” (Ephesians 4:32, NIV 1984).
“In his arrogance the wicked [man’s]… mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.” (Psalm 10:2, 7, NIV 1984).
