In Humility

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:2–5, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Doing something “out of selfish ambition” would be contrary to looking out for “the interests of others.” Just as “vain conceit” would be contrary to considering “others better than yourselves.” An attitude that is “the same as that of Christ Jesus” cannot be accomplished without “humility.

My Advice – We must “learn from [Him], for [He is] gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29, NIV 1984). How can we possibly do this? “He has showed [us]…what is good. And what does the Lord require of [us]? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
