Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:2–5, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Doing something “out of selfish ambition” would be contrary to looking out for “the interests of others.” Just as “vain conceit” would be contrary to considering “others better than yourselves.” An attitude that is “the same as that of Christ Jesus” cannot be accomplished without “humility.”
My Advice – We must “learn from [Him], for [He is] gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29, NIV 1984). How can we possibly do this? “He has showed [us]…what is good. And what does the Lord require of [us]? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8, NIV 1984).
