A New Creation

By him [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:16–17, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Even a casual consideration of the world around us should make us wonder how all things are holding together. As Christians, we know. The One who brought all things into existence will hold them together until it is time for a new creation. “Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.” (Isaiah 65:17, NIV 1984). And that is a comforting thought. These “former things,” the things that make us wonder how “all things hold together” because of the evil that prevails, “will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

My Musings “In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13, NIV 1984). But in order for us to be a part of the new creation, we must also become a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God.” (2 Corinthians 5:16–18, NIV 1984). For our “old creation” born of flesh and blood, is not suitable for the new Heaven and the new earth. We must be a “new creation” born of the Spirit. We must be “in Christ.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
