The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden. (1 Timothy 5:24–25, NIV 1984).
My Musings – We cannot hide our sins forever. In fact, we “[can] be sure that [our] sin will find [us] out.” (Numbers 32:23, NIV 1984). Rather than let it “trail behind [us],” it is best to deal with it by confessing them to God and repenting.
In the case of our good deeds, it is best to not make them obvious to others. Rather we should “not let [our] left hand know what [our] right hand is doing, so that [they] may be in secret. Then [our] Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward [us].” (Matthew 6:3–4, NIV 1984). They “cannot be hidden” from God, and recognition from Him is far better than the praise of man.
My Advice – Confess our sins to God promptly and do not perform good deeds for show. Both sins and good deeds that are hidden do not escape the notice of God.
