To those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. (Titus 1:15–16, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Many claim to know God but are betrayed by their actions. Actions that stem from “minds and consciences [that] are corrupted.” This is because “no good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.” (Luke 6:43–45, NIV 1984).
But those who really know God “will take root below [‘stored up in his heart’] and bear fruit above [‘by their actions’].” (2 Kings 19:30, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “Live a life worthy of the Lord…please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work.” (Colossians 1:10, NIV 1984). No better advice for those whose “claim to know God” is true.
