Encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. (Titus 2:6–8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Whether we like it or not, we are being an example to others, young or old, male or female. For those who oppose our Christian witness to have nothing bad to say about us is a lofty goal. Especially when we are called to proclaim a truth that may not be welcomed. But if we are “speaking the truth in love,” (Ephesians 4:15, NIV 1984), if we do it “with gentleness and respect,” (1 Peter 3:15, NIV 1984), it is possible.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.” (Isaiah 41:10–11, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Yet there will those who embrace the message. “Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” (Isaiah 53:1, NIV 1984). Not many if our example is not good, our speech is not sound.
