He [Jesus] has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:26–28, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Destined to die once,” only for “those who are waiting for him.” For “the second death has no power over them,” (Revelation 20:6, NIV 1984). As for those who have not had their sins taken away, “the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Long ago, seeing the injustice in the world, Job asked, “why does the Almighty not set times for judgment? Why must those who know him look in vain for such days?” (Job 24:1, NIV 1984). Many ask the same question today. When Christ “appear[s] a second time,” He will “bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Everyone else will “face judgment.” We do not know the “set times,” but we do know we better be among the ones who are “waiting for him.” We do not “look in vain.“
