The Hope We Profess

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:22–23, NIV 1984).

My Musings – What is it that gives us hope. The promise? No. It is the One making the promise. Their ability to deliver and their trustworthiness in delivering. Of course, we know that the One who spoke all that is into existence has the ability to deliver on His promises. As for His trustworthiness, if it was ever in doubt, we can look to His record of faithfulness in delivering on His promises. “Just as he had sworn…not one of all the Lord’s good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” (Joshua 21:44–45, NIV 1984).

My Advice – “Not one…failed.” It doesn’t get any better than that. We have trusted others whose records are not this stellar. So, when we have doubts, as we sometimes do, let’s reflect on these truths, which should be self-evident.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
