A Dreadful Thing

It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:30–31, NIV 1984).

My Musings“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God….[those who have] trampled the Son of God under foot, who [have] treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who [have] insulted the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews 10:26-27, 29, NIV 1984).

We have been given the “knowledge of the truth” through the Bible. Yet mankind, for the most part, continue to “[trample] the Son of God underfoot” and “[insult] the Spirit of grace” by rejecting the Gospel. Preferring instead to “keep on sinning.” Foolishly thinking, perhaps, that some other “sacrifice for sins is left.” This is not the case, and what awaits them is “only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume.”

“[God] will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.” (Psalm 96:13, NIV 1984). Either on the basis of the “Spirit of grace” we have embraced or on the “knowledge of the truth” that we have “trampled…underfoot.” Those are our only choices. Either way, the judgment will be “righteous.”

My Advice – We must act while there is still time to avoid such “a dreadful thing” as falling “into the hands of the living God” not covered by His “Spirit of grace.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
