You stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering…publicly exposed to insult and persecution…stood side by side with those who were so treated…sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property…do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded…you need to persevere…you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay.” (Hebrews 10:32–37, NIV 1984).
My Musings – A taste of some of what me might expect. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV 1984). It is difficult at times for us to expect “peace,” if we focus on the “trouble,” rather than why we are having the troubles in the first place. To lose “heart,” when His promised coming appears to be delayed. But He is trustworthy. “[We] will receive what He has promised.”
My Advice – “Surely it [is] for my benefit that I [suffer] such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back.” (Isaiah 38:17, NIV 1984). Take hold of the promise. Then we can “say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'” (Hebrews 13:6, NIV 1984).
