Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28–29, NIV 1984).
My Musings – As believers, we “are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken” rather than being consumed by “the fire [that] never goes out,” (Mark 9:43, NIV 1984). This is certainly awe-inspiring and deserving of our reverence. For God was under no obligation to save anyone from hell’s fire. “And what does the Lord require of you [in return]? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8, NIV 1984)
My Advice – Worship is neither passive lip-service nor an outward facade. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” (Romans 12:1, NIV 1984).
