As Far as It Depends on You

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. (James 1:19-20, NIV 1984).

My Musings -Listening appears to be a vanishing art, especially before speaking our mind. Which cannot help but result in being quick to get angry. None of which are particularly helpful in bringing about a righteous life.

My Advice“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” (Ecclesiastes 7:9, NIV 1984). If we stop to listen before speaking, we may not have to speak at all, nor ignite anger. “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:17–18, NIV 1984). Open ears and tight lips just might help.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
