What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14, NIV 1984).
Musings – “The length of our days is seventy years— or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10, NIV 1984). A mist that vanishes, a hard life that quickly flies away.
The point is that the plans we make today may not last beyond tomorrow. We really “do not even know what will happen tomorrow.” (James 4:14, NIV 1984). Or even if we will make it to tomorrow. Sounds pretty discouraging, doesn’t it? It doesn’t have to be, as long as we are prepared for what comes afterwards.
My Advice – The plans we should me making are for what happens after the mist of our life here on earth vanishes. For it very well could very well “quickly pass.” When Paul spoke of judgment to Felix the governor he became “afraid and said, ‘That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'” (Acts 24:25, NIV 1984). We cannot count on a more convenient time than the present. “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV 1984).
