Choose the Way of Truth

Above all, my brothers, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned. (James 5:12, NIV 1984).

My Musings – What this verse really speaks to is our character. If we strive to consistently live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to God, our “yes” or “no” will be enough. A man or woman or our word. People who “have chosen the way of truth; [who] have set [their] heart on [God’s] laws.” (Psalm 119:30, NIV 1984).

My Advice – Be such a person. “Keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” (1 Peter 3:15–16, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
