Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Coverage. A familiar term in the insurance industry. Take property insurance, for example. One wants enough coverage to pay for whatever loss might occur. If insufficient, the property owner bears the remaining loss. To avoid this situation, a multiple of the current value is typically purchased.
We all “own” our sins. Our good deeds, no matter how great, would never be able to cover even a small fraction of our lostness. But God loved us so deeply that He provided enough coverage no matter how great the multitude of our sins. Sufficient to “ransom [us] from the power of the grave; [to] redeem [us] from death.” (Hosea 13:14, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Inasmuch as He has done this for us, we should have sufficient love for fellow believers to cover their sins against us. “As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35, NIV 1984).
