His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:3–4, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Because we “participate in [His] divine nature,” through faith in His Son Jesus Christ “His divine power [gives] us everything we need for life and godliness” and to be able to “escape the corruption in [this] world caused by evil desires.” We have no excuse to “let sin reign in [our] mortal body so that [we] obey its evil desires. Sin [need] not be [our] master, because [we] are not under law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:12, 14, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “No temptation [or addiction] has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted [or addicted], he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under [escape from] it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV 1984). We have no excuse to fall into or wallow in sin. “His divine power has given us everything we need for…godliness.” And there is no temptation or addiction that is greater than the power He has given us. “How then could [we] do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9, NIV 1984).
But sometimes we do sin. However, “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9, NIV 1984).
