Destructive Heresies

There will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. (2 Peter 2:1–2, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Secrecy and deception, aimed at destroying, denying and bringing “the way of truth into disrepute.” Satan’s tactics since the Garden. In the end, they will bring “destruction on themselves.” Sadly, many others will be deceived. “For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13–14, NIV 1984).

My Advice – People need to know that they “are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.” (Jeremiah 7:8, NIV 1984). That if they “hold to [Jesus’] teaching…[they] will know the truth, and the truth will set [them] free.” (John 8:31–32, NIV 1984). It is up to those of us who have not been deceived to teach the truth. That “[Jesus is] the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through [Him]. (John 14:6, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
