Continue in the Teaching

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 8–9, NIV 1984).

My Musings – It’s not that they had Christ and lost Him. If they do “not continue in the teaching of Christ,” they never had Him in their heart to begin with. But “the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever.” (Psalm 37:28, NIV 1984). The “faithful ones” are those who “continue in the teaching.”

My Advice“If anyone does not remain [continue] in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” (John 15:6, NIV 1894). A heart that is born of the Spirit will not wither.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
