I Have This Against You

I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. (Revelation 2:18–20, NIV 1894).

My Musings – “Doing more [love, faith, service, perseverance] than [we] did at first,” is no excuse for tolerating teachings within the church that are contrary to the Gospel. “[We] should… [practice] the [former], without [tolerating] the [latter].” (Matthew 23:23, NIV 1984). While we have no choice but to put up with it in the world, there is no place for it in the church. “Setting aside the commands of God in order to [tolerate someone’s] own preferences” is inexcusable. (Mark 7:9, NIV 1984). Sadly, it way too prevalent in the church these days.

My Advice“[His] eyes are too pure to look on evil; [He] cannot tolerate wrong.” Habakkuk 1:13, NIV 1984). He will deal with the world. But we must not tolerate wrong in the church.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
