How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! And what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. (1 Jn 3:1a, 2b, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Lavished. Generous and extravagant. “Which of you, if his son [or grandson] asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children [or grandchildren], how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9–11, NIV 1984).
“How much more” one might ask? “Immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV 1984). It is difficult, if not impossible, to “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.” (Ephesians 3:18–19, NIV 1984).
My Advice – For anyone who craves love, they will not be disappointed in the love God has for His children. “And that is what we are,” if we have come to saving faith through His Son. “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3, NIV 1984). So, not just love that is “wide and long and high and deep,” and that “surpasses knowledge,” but “everlasting” as well. Impossible to be “much more” than that.
