A Light Has Dawned

To fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah. (Matthew 4:13–14, NIV 1984).

In the past [God] humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future, He will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan— The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:1–2, NIV 1984).

When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He returned to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, He went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali. (Matthew 4:12–13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The prophecies of Isaiah occurred during the reign of Ahaz, King of Judah, around 800 years prior to their fulfillment. Critics could, of course, point out that this could have easily orchestrated by a pretender, which is true. But for Christ, who fulfilled so many prophesies that were beyond His ability to control, prophecies such as this one only complete the package. He must fulfill them all, not just the ones He could control. Which He did.

My Advice – We all, at one time or another, “[walked] in darkness” and “[lived] in the land of the shadow of death. Only the humbled will be permitted to escape the shadows and darkness that hangs over a fallen world, by surrendering their life to Christ. He left His place in Heaven to live among men and sacrifice His life for our sins. “[He is] the light of the world. Whoever follows [Him] will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
