The Road Less Traveled

According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:15–17, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” – Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), Back to the Future.

“We who are still alive, includes only those alive in Christ. “Those who have fallen asleep, “includes only the dead in Christ. We don’t know when or how we will be going, but we do know that “where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” The road less traveled is not a road at all.

They say that the “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” The implication being that it takes good works not merely good intentions to get off that paved road. However, both roads, good intentions and good works, absent the saving grace by faith in Jesus Christ, are the same pavement leading to the same place. It is not where “we will be with the Lord forever. ” Quite the contrary.

My Advice – “No! Marty! We’ve already agreed that having information about the future can be extremely dangerous. Even if your intentions are good, it [disrupting the time-space continuum] can backfire drastically!” – Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), Back to the Future. Well, here’s some information about the future that can be extremely beneficial.

“God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” (John 3:17–18, NIV 1984). Only you can disrupt your time-space continuum of being condemned already. Believe. Take the “road” less traveled.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
