David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied…the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45, 46–47, NIV 1984).
My Musings – The world is gathering and coming against us. The “weapons” that “[they] come against [us] with” are many. They come in defiance of God and His Son, Jesus Christ, who we proclaim.
We need not tremble in fear. Nor do we need to come against them with the same kind of weaponry. “For our [real] struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12, NIV 1984).
We only need to “stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” (Ephesians 6:14–18, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” (2 Corinthians 10:3–5, NIV 1984).
“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31, NIV 1984). Those “against us” will come. They may look like giants, but we need only face them “in the name of the Lord Almighty.” In the end, the giants will fall and “the whole world will know that there is a God.”
