Contending With God

“Who is this that darkens My counsel with words without knowledge? I will question you, and you shall answer Me. Tell Me, if you understand. Surely you know! Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who accuses God answer Him!” (Job 38:2-5, 40:2, NIV 1984)

My Musings – Finitum Non Capax Infiniti. Latin for “the finite cannot comprehend (or grasp) the infinite.” It is foolish to question the Words and the ways of God. He is infinite, we are finite. “For [His] thoughts are not [our] thoughts, neither are [our] ways [His] ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are [His] ways higher than [our] ways and [His] thoughts than [our] thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV 1984). Infinite in wisdom, infinite in righteousness, and infinite in being.

When He says, “this is the way; walk in it,” (Isaiah 30:21, NIV 1984), we best walk in it. When His Son says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6, NIV 1984), seeking another way is pointless. When His Word says, “we will all stand before God’s judgment seat…each of us will give an account of himself to God,” (Romans 14:10, 12, NIV 1984), we will be in no position to accuse or contend with Him.

My Advice“Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, ‘He did not make me?’ Can the pot say of the potter, ‘He knows nothing?'” (Isaiah 29:16, NIV 1984). Can the creature say to the Creator, “why should I walk in this way? Your Son cannot be the only way. My account of myself should be sufficient to satisfy you.”

“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?” Not hardly. “[He] will question [us], and [we] shall answer [Him].” His question: “why should I let you in?” Our answer better be: “I accepted your Son’s invitation.”

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
