Established By God

Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. (Daniel 2:20–21, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Sometimes, the rulers that He sets up and the ones He deposes are a mystery to us. But “wisdom and power are His.” While we cannot see all ends, He does. We do know that “there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1, NIV 1984). He does not take counsel with us when He does so. Nor does He need to.

My Advice – Baffled by some of God’s choices? We need not be. He is totally Holy and just. He is building a Kingdom that is not of this world. A Kingdom ruled by Christ.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!'” (Revelation 21:1–5, NIV 1984).

Rulers and kingdoms, good and wicked, established now and in the past are leading us to Christ’s return and His rule. Put your trust in God, even when things don’t make sense to us. “Behold, [He is] coming soon!” (Revelation 22:7, NIV 1984). He is sovereign and keeps His promises. “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” (Revelation 22:20, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
