The Divine Prerogative

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.” (Acts 26:24, NIV 1984).

My Musings – What was it that Paul said that elicited this response? “I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen—that the Christ would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would proclaim light to his own people and to the Gentiles.” (Acts 26:22–23, NIV 1984). If someone believes in the God of the Bible, this statement should not seem incredible at all. He who created life would not find it impossible to restore life.

My Advice – What seems incredible is that Jesus would lay down His life in the first place. But He did. To provide for the forgiveness of sins. We could never obtain this forgiveness by any other means. For it is the prerogative of the one who is sinned against, to provide forgiveness, not the sinner. We must accept the means that He provided, for there is no acceptable alternative.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
