Consider The Heart

Consider The Heart

1 Samuel 16:7 – “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – Boy has this generation got it wrong. We spend so much time and money on appearance and looks, which does not really matter to God. God looks at who we are on the inside.

My Advice – While you do not have to be a slob or let yourself go, make sure you spend as much time and effort improving your character as you do on improving your appearance. Appearances quickly fade with the ravages of time. Character, on the other hand, will last into eternity.

The First Black Friday

TG Amusing

Psalm 100:4, 5Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (NIV 1984)

My Musing – The above comic stands in stark contrast to this passage from Psalms, as the shoppers “enter the mall gates with Thanksgiving” seeking a good deal on Black Friday.  A long time ago there was another kind of Black Friday, which culminated in the greatest deal ever offered to mankind.  This deal allows anyone who accepts it, the greatest bargain ever conceived – eternal life at no cost to us.

My Advice – Take the deal.  There will be no buyer’s remorse.

Prove Your Discipleship With Love

Step 12 – Prove Your Discipleship With Love
All men will know that you are My disciples if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

A: Discovering the Truth

Love 1

B: Exploring the Truth

God calls us to the highest degree (agape) of love. Agape refers to a Continue reading “Prove Your Discipleship With Love”

The Anti-Christ

THE ANTI-CHRIST – The anti-Christ is the end-times antagonist of God and His people. He is a person who will be empowered by Satan and will function as an enemy of Jesus Christ and the Church. In the context of apocalyptic literature, this figure performs false miracles, deceives many in order to discourage people from worshiping the true God, and persecutes God’s people. The term anti-Christ could be interpreted either as Continue reading “The Anti-Christ”

Considering Great Things

Considering Great Things

1 Samuel 12:24 – “But be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart: consider what great things He has done for you.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – When we sincerely consider all the things that God has done for us how can we not fear Him and be in awe of Him? How else can we show our gratitude to Him other than by serving Him faithfully?

My Advice – Periodically take time to count your blessings. For each blessing consider how things might have been without the blessing. For each blessing consider how many more there probably are that you do not even know about. Then do not forget to thank God. Then show Him how earnest your thankfulness is by serving Him faithfully.

The Tribulation

THE TRIBULATION – The Hebrew word that is commonly translated as Tribulation literally means narrow or compressed. The Greek word that is translated as Tribulation also conveys the idea of severe constriction, narrowing, or pressing together. In contrast to the age of Grace, which has extended for nearly 2000 years, the Tribulation (also called the age of Wrath) is compressed into seven years. Similar notions underlie the Latin word which literally means a threshing sledge used to crush and separate grain. Separating the wheat from the chaff will entail a crushing sequence of events during the Tribulation. A figurative understanding of these terms would be affliction, distress, or tribulation. (1)

The primary questions surrounding the Tribulation are its timing in relation to the Rapture and Parousia, whether believers will be subjected to it, the distinction between Tribulation and Great Tribulation, its duration, and why the Tribulation is necessary. Continue reading “The Tribulation”

Getting Back To Where You Once Belonged

Getting Back To Where You Once Belonged

1 Samuel 7:3“If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit yourselves to the Lord and serve Him only, and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – You cannot return without turning around. You have to stop going in a direction that is against God in order to return to God. You have to turn around and go back towards God.

My Advice – When you have been out of God’s will and you want to return to Him, make sure you do so wholeheartedly. Do not try to hang onto what got you outside of God’s will in the first place. It just will not work. Rid yourself of it and recommit yourself to God.
