Though Outwardly We Are Wasting Away

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. (3 John 2, NIV 1984).

My Musings – We may not always “enjoy good health. All “may [not] go well with [us].” These are, of course, things that we would desire. But it is more important that “[our] soul is getting along well.” In fact, it is often necessary to go through periods of poor health and/or for things to not go so well for us in order to improve the “wellness” of our souls. “He restores [our] soul. He guides [us] in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though [we] walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” (Psalms 23:3–4, NIV 1984).

My Advice – When things do not go as desired, trust God. He has our spiritual well-being and growth foremost in His mind despite the troubles. So, “do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16–18, NIV 1984).
