Out of Bondage

And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet [Hosea]. (Matthew 2:15, NIV 1984).

Out of Egypt I called my son. (Hosea 11:1, NIV 1984).

An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” So, he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. (Matthew 2:13–15, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Hosea was a prophet “during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the reign of Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel.” (Hosea 1:1, NIV 1984). This particular prophecy was around the mid 700’s B.C. A minor detail, perhaps, in the life of Jesus, but one more piece of the prophetic puzzle, nonetheless.

My Advice – Egypt. The land of bondage of the ancient Hebrews. Today, God is calling us to a second Exodus, out of the bondage of sin, through the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. The Son of God. There is no need to remain in bondage. All we must do is respond to the call.

The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. (Romans 8:19–21, NIV 1984).
