Your King Comes to You

This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet [Zechariah]. (Matthew 21:4, NIV 1984).

Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9, NIV 1984).

They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:6–9, NIV 1984).

My Musings – It was during the reign of “Darius, [that] the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah.” (Zechariah 1:1, NIV 1984). This would have been around 520 B.C. Darius was a Persian king. The Jews were still in captivity after being conquered by Babylon, which in turn was conquered by Persia.

If Jesus was a fake Messiah, He could have easily choreographed His entrance into Jerusalem. However, He could not have controlled the shouting and rejoicing of the people. “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” But even if they had “[kept] quiet, the stones [would] cry out.” (Luke 19:40, NIV 1984).

My Advice – “Your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation.” all that is needed is for you to come to Him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28–29, NIV 1984).
