Study 4: Man’s Remedies

Aware of His separation from His creator, if not also of the dire consequences that he faces, down through the centuries man has sought his own solutions to bridge the gap. But no matter how well intentioned or sincere, all of man’s so-called remedies fall far short of bridging the gap or of building a stairway to reach our creator. They leave us perplexed, frustrated, and perhaps a bit frantic, yet still seeking the answer to an age-long question: what must I do to be saved?

It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. (Romans 9:16) Continue reading “Study 4: Man’s Remedy”

Step Forward

Step Forward

1 Kings 18:36Elijah stepped forward and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – We need to be more like Elijah. Eager to step forward and proclaim that God is Lord of all and proud that we are His servants.

My Advice – Do not be reluctant to let others know that you are a Christian. It is nothing to be apologetic about or ashamed of. God is Lord of all, be proud that you believe in Him and that you are a follower of His son Jesus Christ.

Love Grows Cold

Rev 2 Cover

Love Grows Cold – “…the love of most will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12b)

The love spoken of here is the highest form of love defined in Scripture (agape). It is one in which “spiritual energy is blighted or chilled by a malign [ant] or poisonous wind.” (1)Love growing cold is being cultivated by the increase of evil (“because of the increase of wickedness“). Do Not Waver

Do Not Waver

1 Kings 18:21 – “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is god, follow him.” (NIV 1978)

My Musing – In this day and age, idolatry, in the Old Testament sense, does not really exist. There are not competing “gods” to believe in. Most people are clear in their convictions, they either believe in God or they do not. Unfortunately, for those who believe in God, there is often wavering because they do not follow Him.

My Advice – Do not be shallow in your belief in God and in His Son Jesus Christ Follow them wholeheartedly and do not waver.

Increased Wickedness

Increased Wickedness – “Because of the increase of wickedness…” (Matthew 24:12a).

In most respects, civilization is more advanced today than it has ever been. Paradoxically, the advancement of civilization has not led to a corresponding advancement in civility, as even a casual survey of “traditional” and “social” media will attest. Some may even argue that civilization (or at least civility) has retreated rather than advanced. But how does one accurately measure the decline in morality and the increase in wickedness when the standard of measurement is constantly being redefined by society? Careful Builders

Careful Builders

1 Kings 6:38 & 7:1He (Solomon) spent seven years building it (the temple). It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace.  (NIV 1978)

My Musing – We spend a lifetime building a career, our “nest-egg” and our position within the community. How sad that we rarely put that much time and effort into building our relationship with God.

My Advice – Do not become so engrossed in building your career and in accumulating wealth and possessions that you neglect your relationship with God. Devote just as much energy in working to become more Christ like as you do to these things.
