We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. (2 Peter 3:13–16, NIV 1984).
My Musings – As you might have guessed by now, I enjoy writing and sharing my musings. Some contain “things that are hard to understand,” (“Studies in Revelation” for example), and some are quite straight-forward (“The Born Again Experience”). I hope that none are “ignorant and unstable” distortions of God’s Word.
The only “formal” training I have in writing was my eighth-grade creative writing class, which ignited my passion for writing (thank you Mr. Womack!) and one semester of business writing in college. Some of my blogs started out as Sunday School lessons that turned into books (“The Born Again Experience,” “Got Spiritual Milk,” and “Studies in Revelation”), while my latest book (“The Brew’s Musings”) started as blogs, which I compiled into a book of devotional readings. Apart from my blogs, “unless other people get to read [them],” I guess my writing is nothing more than a hobby, “not a book.” But for anyone wo might want to make me a bona fide author, these books can be purchased at http://www.blurb.com.
But I trust there is more to it than the enjoyment that I get out of it. I hope it is a “calling,” a ministry of hope, encouragement and inspiration for those who might stumble across my blogs or my books. Or better still, if it is indeed a calling, to those to whom my musings were providentially sent. Not because I am a prolific writer, but because I am being faithful to His Word and He knows who will specifically benefit.
My Advice – There are times, of course, where I feel that I am much too preoccupied with the number of hits, likes, comments or shares that I get, when I should be focused on the needs behind them. I desire for my writings to be done for His glory, not mine. Pray that I write with whatever “wisdom that God gave” me.
