No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. (1 John 3:8–9, NIV 1984).
My Musings – This does not mean that those “born of God” will never sin again. There will be instances, even seasons, where they will. Perhaps egregiously. But they will not, they cannot, remain in that state. Like the prodigal son, through the influence of the Holy Spirit, they will come to their senses and return to their Father. They may, likely will, fall again. But the frequency and length of the seasons will lessen as they grow in Christ, with higher highs and higher lows.
While we cannot judge, those who habitually continue to sin with no real progress to a transformed life, were likely never “born of God” in the first place.
My Advice – Are you in one of those seasons? Think you strayed too far to return? If you truly have been “born of God” that’s not possible. Again, like the prodigal son, “while [you are] still a long way off, [your] father [sees you] and …filled with compassion for [you]; he [will run] to [you], threw his arms around [you] and [kiss you].” The (Luke 15:20, NIV 1984). No need to wallow in the mire. Return to Him today.
If you’ve never been “born of God,” there is no sin too small that you need not be born again, and no sin too great that you cannot be born again. Believe in Him (Jesus) today. And you will be saved.
