“See, I am against you, O arrogant one,” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty,
“for your day has come, the time for you to be punished. The arrogant one will stumble and fall and no one will help her up; I will kindle a fire in her towns that will consume all who are around her.”  (Jeremiah 50:31–32, NIV 1984). 

“Repay her for her deeds; do to her as she has done. For she has defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.”  (Jeremiah 50:29, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – These verses depict the what and why of Babylon during the days of Jeremiah. A literal judgment on an existing kingdom.  But not all references to Babylon in the Scriptures refer to the historic kingdom.  For Babylon was also a “type” for any kingdom or empire down through the ages that allowed its power, riches and worldliness to turn into…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
