Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4, NIV 1984).
My Musings -Once again, it’s all about choices. But we often do not appreciate the gravity of our choices. Or we fool ourselves into thinking that ignoring the gravity somehow makes it less serious. But let’s not fool ourselves. “Hatred toward God” and “enemy of God” are pretty hard to ignore. As if to underscore this, James prefaced this verse with some pretty harsh language — “you adulterous people.” You unfaithful, faithless, disloyal, untrue, unreliable, untrustworthy, false, false-hearted, deceiving, deceitful, treacherous, people. Lest we think it is an innocent flirtation.
My Advice – Choose to cultivate your friendship with God.
