Be Careful Where You Pitch Your Tent

They left the Red Sea and camped in the Desert of Sin. (Numbers 33:11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Okay. So, I am taking this passage (which has to do with the travels of the Israelites coming out of Egypt) completely out of context. But as I listened to this passage on my daily commute, I couldn’t help but think about how many Christians have wandered away and have “camped [out] in the desert of Sin.” It may appear to be a desirable oasis of “twelve springs and seventy palm trees,” (Numbers 33:9, NIV 1984), but it’s only a mirage of imagined pleasures.

My Advice – Don’t go chasing springs and palms in the desert of sin. The pleasure is elusive and will soon vanish, leaving only disappointment and regret.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
