“Do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance? But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.” (Romans 2:4–5, NIV 1984).

My Musings – God’s mercy and grace are reserved for the penitent. For those feeling or showing sorrow and regret for their sinfulness. Because it is impossible for the impenitent, those with no sorrow or regret, to receive mercy and grace. His “kindness, tolerance and patience” are intended to lead us to repentance. When we stubbornly refuse to repent, we are showing “contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance and patience.“ What riches you might ask? Nothing less than the blood of His only Son Jesus, shed on the cross…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
