Who Are We Imitating?

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. (3 John 11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – As the culture wages war on the Church, it is getting more and more difficult to distinguish believers from non-believers. Rather than the Church influencing the world, are we becoming imitators of what is evil rather than what is good? “[We] who preach against stealing, do [we] steal? [We] who say that people should not commit adultery, do [we] commit adultery? [We] who abhor idols, do [we] rob temples? [We] who brag about the law, do [we] dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: ‘God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of [us].’” (Romans 2:21–24, NIV 1984).

My Advice – It bears repeating. “Do not imitate what is evil but what is good.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
