“If [any nation] learn[s] well the ways of my people and swear[s] by my  name…then they will be established among my people. But if any nation does not listen, I will completely uproot and destroy it,” declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 12:16–17, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – On July 4, 1776 ” a new nation, conceived in liberty” was established and “assume[d] among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle[d]” it. No matter how well intentioned, however, no declaration by a nation is sufficient in and of itself to establish it “among [God’s] people.” Yet despite what many revisionists would lead us to believe, it learned “well the ways of [God’s] people and [swore] by [His] name,” it was established as a nation favored by God. I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
