Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? (Colossians 2:20–21, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Future generations will look back on TV [social media] as the lead in the water pipes that slowly drove the Romans mad.” (Kurt Vonnegut, Jr,). “Lead in the water pipes.” Debatable as to whether it was a contributing factor to the fall of the Roman Empire.
It should be abundantly clear, however, that while TV and social media does have its redeeming quality of delivering some “fresh water,” the “lead” is still leaching in. Contributing greatly to the reset of the moral compass that our culture has experienced and the wedge that is driving the divisions in our society. Not to toxic levels at first but the cumulative effect, looking back, is alarming. At least it would be if the culture had not become desensitized to the damage that’s been done.
My Advice – “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast [lead] works through the whole batch of dough [water supply].”
Are you running the race in the wrong direction? Do you find yourself submitting more and more to “the basic principles of this world.” Perhaps it time for some “chelation therapy” to get the lead out. Spend more quality time in the Word. Pray without ceasing. Get back into the habit of regular in-person church attendance, join a small group. Be more selective in the shows and movies we watch. Be more discerning and disciplined in what we take in from social media.
Good word. 👍

TV is one of the most effective tools of brainwashing and people don’t even know it.
